Reasons why Indian people must say thanks to Atal Bihari Vajpayee!

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a politician who became three times as a Prime Minister of India. He was the first Prime Minister that was not a politician from Indian National Congress party and served complete five years.

He was born to Krishna Bihari Vajpayee and Krishna Devi on 25th December 1924 in Gwalior. He completed his schooling from Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Gwalior. In 1934, he got admitted to AVM school in Ujjain Distt. At the age of 16 years in 1942, he became an active member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and actively participated in Quit India Movement. In 1951, he joined RSS to work for newly formed Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He played a very important role in forming Bhartiya Janta Party. Then he got a breakthrough in his political career and became Prime minister of India from 1996 to 2004.

  • Nuclear India

 

Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Pokhran in 1998 and was involved in conducting five nuclear tests. With this act, his government shown the world that India is also capable of the conducting nuclear tests but with no-first use policy. This move was not against Pakistan but he wants to create deterrence against China that was having nuclear weapons at that time. After these nuclear tests, China showed a great intention to get engaged in India commercially

 

  • Telecom revolution

 

When Atal joined the office in 1998, then telecom sector was static. The first call from mobile was made in 1995 but nothing has much after that. He brought the telecom policy and opened this sector. The monopoly of government- owned companies ended and private players came into the picture. He also waived off fixed fee that organizations had to pay for using spectrum. Under the new policy, they are bound to pay only a portion of their revenue. With his intelligent step, government used to get more revenue from the profits of private companies. Also, the policy reduced the cost of government owned telecom companies. Also, foreign companies came to India with their latest phones. Today India has more smartphone than schools and toilets.

 

  • Education for ALL

 

From many years, the centre has failed to improve the quality of education. He came with a novel yet simple solution Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for universal education. He launched this campaign in 2001 and the main objective was to achieve universal Literacy in India. He made education a fundamental right of children between six and 14 years. Also, the school dropout rate was reduced by 60 percent in just five years.

 

  • Connecting India

 

He envisaged a network of highways to connect the corners of India. This was actually a policy to give villages’ access to Urban India. It also generated employment in rural India. The main objective was to provide greater access to agricultural farms and villages.

Hence, Atal Bihari Vajpayee has done a lot for the Indians. He was one of the greatest leaders in the history of India.
