Personal Life & Political Career
K.C. Venugopal is an Indian politician and a member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Alappuzha constituency and is a member of the Indian National Congress. He was appointed as Secretary General of AICC a load of Karnataka on April 29, 2017 and was the Minister of State for Civil Aviation in the government of the UPA. Personal life
He was born on February 4, 1963 in Kunjukrishnan and Janaki Amma in the district of Kannur in Kerala.
Political life
He came to active politics through the Student Movement of the Indian National Congress. He became the president of the Student Union of Kerala and president of the Young Indian Congress, was elected a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly of the Alappuzha constituency in 1996, 2001 and 2006. He served as Minister of Dewaswom and Tourism in the Oommen Chandy Ministry since 2004-06. He held the general elections in Loksabha of Alappuzha Constituency in 2009 and won with a good margin.
For Mr. Venugopal, Kannur has not been his political gravitational field since he moved politically to Alappuzha after his electoral victory in the constituency of the Alappuzha Assembly in 1996. His success in the 2001 and 2006 elections and his election in Lok Sabha in the 2009 parliamentary elections has only completed the process of his political expatriation.
However, he always kept in touch with his home district. The 48-year-old Congress leader, who served as Minister of Tourism and Devaswom in the government of the United Democratic Front (FDU) during 2004-06, began his political career when he was a student at Payyanur College.
Since then, he has been on the correct trajectory of the political career in his party. From being president of the Payyanur unit to the Union of Students of the Kerala College (KSU) until his incorporation into the Union cabinet, it was a long journey for a leader of his age. In the middle he served as state president of KSU (1987-92) and the Youth Congress (1992-2000), among others.
A graduate in mathematics, Mr. Venugopal must have a rapid political evolution in the late leader K. Karunakaran. His loyalty to the leader when the latter was in charge of the affairs of the Congress in the State helped him to advance on the political ladder without much preamble. Mr. Venugopal was also a volleyball player during his days at the university. College Played for the Payyanur and the University of Calicut.
Supporters of Mr. Venugopal say that although he moved to Alappuzha, he became personally interested in several tourism projects in his home district when he was Minister of Tourism. The People's Square, the renovated Gandhi Park in Payyanur, the approval of the proposals for the development of the beaches in the district and the ecotourism project for Paithalmala are some of them, they say.
On April 29, 2017 he was elected as general secretary of the Indian Congress Committee.
Detection of possible Air India Ticketing Scam
In great shame for Air India, Minister of State for civil aviation K.C. Venugopal detected a possible ticketing station and exploded it almost without help while traveling on one of the airline's flights. Venugopal was traveling to Kochi on a Delhi-Kochi-Thiruvananthapuram flight on January 4 when he did not have 23 vacant seats on board. He decided that the reason for the unavailability of tickets was that Kerala refused a seat on the same flight. But when he asked for the passenger list, the team could not produce one. Venugopal then instructed his office to file a formal complaint with the airline's president and CEO, Rohit Nandan. Air India launched an investigation into the complaint, by January 10, the customer service officials were suspended from their duties.
