Poonam Mahajan, aka Poonam Vajendla Rao (born December 9, 1980) is MP for Mumbai North Central and politician of the Bharatiya Janata party, or BJP. She was named president of the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha BJYM party in December 2016, within the BJP's youth wing. She was also the president of the Indian Basketball Federation, she is a first woman to hold.
Early life
She was born in Bombay of Rekha Mahajan and party leader Bharatiya Janata, Pramod Mahajan. His brother is Rahul Mahajan.
Career
After the assassination of his father in 2006, Poonam Mahajan joined the Bhartiya Janta party as a party member, with the encouragement of his uncle, the late Gopinath Munde, former deputy minister of the state of Maharashtra. Now she is the national president of BJYM, the youth section of the Bharatiya Janata party.
In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, she made efforts to register new and young voters in South Mumbai and subsequently to obtain the LS billet in this region.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha is the youth branch of the parents' body and, according to the internal constitution, she forms a new management team every 3 to 5 years. Mahajan was named National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in August 2010.
She participated in the 2014 Indian general election in Mumbai North Central and won with a margin of 1.86 for the biggest disturbances in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. She defeated her closest rival and twice Congressman Priya Dutt.
Personal life
She is married to Anand Rao Vejandla, an industrialist from Hyderabad. They have a son named Aadya Rao and a girl named Avika Rao.
