Rita Bahuguna Joshi (born July 22, 1949) is a politician and government minister from Uttar Pradesh. She was appointed Chairman of the Congress Committee of UP from 2007 to She joined Bharatiya Janata Party on October 20, 2016.
Rita Bahuguna Joshi is the daughter of the late H. N. Bahuguna, former chief minister of the UP. His mother, the late Kamla Bahuguna, was a former MP. She holds a master's degree and a doctorate in history and is a professor of medieval and modern history at the University of Allahabad. She is also the recipient of a UN Award of Excellence among the most distinguished women in South Asia. She wrote two history books before joining the Indian National Congress.
Rita Bahuguna served as mayor of Allahabad from 1995 to 2000. Former Vice President of the National Council of Women, she has been President of the All India Mahila Congress since 2003 and the Uttar Pradesh Convention Committee since September 2007. She participated twice unsuccessfully in the Lok Sabha elections. the lower house of parliament of India. She was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly for Lucknow's vote in the 2012 legislative elections. We are a contest for Lok Sabha 2014 elections in Lucknow and lost.
She joined the BJP on October 20, 2016 in the presence of BJP President Amit Shah after 24 years in Congress.
