Ramesh Pokhriyal "Nishank" (born July 15, 1959) is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was chief minister from 2009 to 2011. He is currently a member of the 16th Lok Sabha. He represents the parliamentary constituency Haridwar from Uttarakhand to Lok Sabha and is a member of the Bharatiya Janta party.
Personal life
He was born in the village of Pinani, Pauri Garhwal, Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) in Paramanamd Pokhriyal and Vishambhari Devi.
He is a graduate of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna University in Garhwal of Srinagar (Garhwal), Uttarakhand in Arts and Ph.D. (with honors) and his Ph.D. in Literature.
He was married to Kusum Kanta Pokhriyal.SHe died at Delhi Ganga Ram Hospital on November 11, 2012 after a brief illness. Nishank and Kusum Kanta have three daughters, Arushi, who is the dancer Kathak, Vidushi and Shreyashi.
Political career
Pokhriyal was first elected to Utdor Pradesh Vidhan Sabha from Karnaprayag Parish in 1991, and then to 1993 and 1996 in the same constituency. In 1997, he was appointed Minister of Development of Uttaranchal. He was also Chief Minister of Employment (from 2009 to 2011) and is currently a member of the 16th Session of Lok Sabha and Chairman of the Insurance Committee. He is currently [when?] Representative of the Haridwar constituency in Lok Sabha and a prominent member of the Bhartiya Janta Party. He is a member of Vidhan Sabha of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for five consecutive terms from 1991 to 2012. He was elected in 1991 from the Karnaprayag Hall for three consecutive terms.
Pokhriyal was appointed Minister of Development of Ukraine in the cabinet of Shri Kalyan Singh and appointed in 1999 for cultural achievement and endowments in the cabinet of Shri Ram Prakash Gupta. In 2000, after the creation of the state of Uttarakhand, the revenue, taxes and water divisions. He was prime minister of 12 divisions, including finance, revenue, taxes and water, for the state of Uttarakhand. In 2007, he was appointed Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Language and Science Departments of Uttarakhand. In 2009, he became the youngest chief minister of Uttarakhand. Literary career
Pokhriyal wrote poems and stories from his childhood, but his first collection "Samparn" was published in 1983. Children, 2 books of personal development. more than 4 dozen published works. [citation needed] He has written in all genres of Hindi literature (poems, novels, short stories, travel journals, etc.) which makes a respectable figure of Hindi literature.

Many national and international publications and social organizations have awarded him Rashtriya Gaurav, Bharat Gaurav, Pride of Uttrakhand Award.
The Indian government has awarded the Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan Prize for the year 2008 09 for his book "Himalaya ka Maha Kumbh: Nanda Devi Raj Jaat" [citation needed]
